Digital Nature Photography Workshops

In 2009 we started new photographic courses, focused on nature (flora & fauna) within the Lake District. The workshops are 7 nights and have the same format as our regular landscape photographic courses, except that the walks have a nature bias depending on the season. There is a four night option available from Sunday to Thursday if preferred.

Guests generally arrive around 4pm on Saturday; have a cup of tea, then relax and chat with John and the other guests till 7pm when a 4 course dinner is served. After dinner, John gives an introduction talk about LPH and shows some typical nature images that might be attainable on the workshop.

On Sunday morning John holds an optional camera surgery to take guests through the various menus on their cameras, to ensure that they are set up to give the best possible results. At the same time he can provide a sensor check to ensure sensors are clean, and can clean sensors if required. After that the guests go out in groups to locations that we recommend.

On Monday, Wednesday and Friday John takes everyone out on nature-based walks, from 10am till 5pm and teaches photography in the field. Locations may include a bird reserve, the side of a lake where there might be good damselfly and dragonfly numbers, or woodland to hunt for fungi, mosses and lichens. On Tuesday and Thursday, guests again go out to locations that we recommend or do their own thing.

Each evening, after dinner John reviews 10 - 15 images from each person, providing constructive feedback.

The price is £640 in 2010 for the full week, inclusive of accommodation, tuition, food and excursions - only alcoholic drinks are excluded.
