Landscape Workshops
Getting put and about in the Lakes and Fells
Bring your landscape photographs to life and learn to capture the stunning Lake District vistas in all their glory. Covering all aspects of landscape photography the workshops key strengths are undoubtedly John’s intimate knowledge of the local area along with his informal approach to teaching that brings the best out of his students. John helps his guests to avoid many of the pitfalls that amateur photographer can make enabling them to get the most out of not only their camera but also their eyes.
Nature & Wildlife Workshops
All things Nature and Wild
The Lake District is a paradise for nature photographers with its rich animal life, flora and fauna. The nature and wildlife photography courses are held in the spring and autumn each year and offer a divers and contrasting subject matter. The spring workshop focuses on new life with subjects such as bluebells, birds, dragon and damselflies, where the autumn workshop concentrates on rich earthy autumn hues and an abundance of richly coloured fungi.
Limited Walking Workshops
Digital Landscape Photography with Limited Walking
“Less Walking, More Photography”, is the ethos of the limited walking workshop. Going to fewer places allows guests to spend more time in the locations they do visit, giving them the opportunity to immerse themselves in the area maximizing photographic opportunities. The Workshop is suitable for guests that are less able; a typical day would see students covering a distance of approximately 1½ miles, over reasonably level ground.
Black & White Workshops
Simply Black & White
For the purists there is still something magical about the black and white image and the way that it conveys atmosphere. The black and white photographic course takes guests from the initial image capture through editing in Photoshop and on to profiling and printing, maximizing quality at all stages of the digital workflow. This is accomplished with a mixture of days in the field capturing raw images and days back at base processing the images with Photoshop.
Active Walking Workshops
Landscape Photography with Active Walking
The active walking workshop are aimed at those guests that want to go that little bit further in order to capture some truly stunning images of the Lake District. Guests should feel comfortable in walking up to six miles a day over uneven ground as well as being able to carry their camera equipment up moderately steep ascents and descents. The rewards are worth the extra effort with striking images from the likes of Haystacks and Easedale Tarn being achieved in the past.
Photoshop Workshops
Enhance and develop your photos
Photoshop photo editing software can be quite bewildering at first as it has more features and settings than most people will ever require. John breaks down the key component and features going through them individually helping guests to establish a logical workflow. By the end of the four-day course guests should be comfortable with the general Photoshop set up as well as working with layers, adjustment layers, layer masks and the selection tools.
Tuscany Workshops
Photography Vacations Europe
The Tuscany workshop is for all those people who love great food, stunning locations and almost guaranteed good weather. Guests have the opportunity visit ancient olive groves; hill top houses including the home used in the film Gladiator, charming Tuscan villages and the historic city of Sienna. Run in co-operation with Jimmy and Angela McCracken who supply the local knowledge and hospitality that make Lakeland Photo Holidays workshops a cut above the rest.
Marrakech Workshops
Wild Light Photography Holidays
Travel to the exotic “Red City” of Marrakech with its rich, vibrant coloured buildings and bustling souks and markets. The people and culture of this North African land provide a contrast to what most visitors from Europe are used to. John helps to build guests confidence so they feel comfortable in paying people in their photographs, something that is common in this part of the world. Outside of Marrakech John escorts his students to Asni a village at the foot of the impressive Atlas Mountains.
