I am a keen walker who regularly visits and enjoys the Lakeland fells and surrounding countryside. My stay at LPH for a week was just what I needed to enable me take time out to photograph the scenery rather than concentrating on the walking route. LPH being located at Braithwaite offers easy access to the less frequently visited parts of the Lake District. John has an intimate knowledge of the area and at the morning briefing provided options of locations to visit, including up to date weather predictions. When he accompanies the group his enthusiasm in pointing out good viewpoints encouraged me to look for key features to make a good composition.
I found the evening critique sessions to be both encouraging and never over-critical. For me they were especially informative when each of our photo sets were discussed and it was interesting to consider the different approaches that had been applied to similar subjects. The accommodation arrangements at LPH are first class. The en-suite bedroom I had was well furnished, quite spacious and the bed was very comfortable. Gail's cooking skills provide for a good choice of dishes at mealtimes. The breakfasts always set me up for the day's outing when we were sent out with a packed lunch.
The evening dinner was something I really looked forward to when there was always a good choice of competently prepared and served dishes. The selection of locally brewed beers was really good too. In my opinion this stay at LPH was the complete package - I enjoyed learning new techniques and the company of some enthusiastic and talented photographers. John and Gail work very hard to make you welcome from the outset and provide a holiday experience at a very reasonable price. I would recommend LPH to any photographer who wishes to visit the Lake District.
