Landscape photography a little further off the beaten track

Active Walking Workshops

The Lake District is arguably one of the most beautiful areas of unspoiled countryside in the world. Those who want to really head off the beaten track and perfectly capture its lesser-known beauty spots can combine photography with exhilarating walks on this specialist workshop.

Having lived in the area for over 13 years John has built up an intimate and extensive knowledge of the Lakes and this valuable knowledge allows him to take our guests just that little bit higher and further to capture truly stunning images. It's his insight into the area that makes this course so very special; his exceptional photographic expertise is an added bonus.

The workshop consists of 3 fully escorted excursions, on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, with the guests taking the opportunity on Tuesday and Thursday to go out in groups and practise the techniques that they have learnt the previous day.

During the Active Walking Workshop, John takes guests to many of the most popular Lake District locations such as Haystacks, Easedale Tarn, Martindale and Loughrigg Fell, but it is undoubtedly his detailed, technical knowledge that helps guests to really get the most out of these locations.

Active Walking guests should be fit enough to walk up to six miles across uneven paths, often with fairly steep ascents and descents, whilst carrying camera equipment and tripods. As you'd expect we also ask that guests bring appropriate footwear for covering uneven ground, waterproof clothing and waterproof coverings for their camera equipment (or plastic bags at a pinch).

Ever the optimists, we also recommend that you bring sun protection and having bug spray is advisable too (Avon Skin So Soft comes highly recommended and is used by the SAS). It's worth noting that bug spray containing Deet can be corrosive to camera equipment and should be therefore treated with caution.
