Ideal for Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award Residential, young people starting Photography A-level or a new Photography Diploma/Degree or a young person who just loves photography.
We love to welcome young people to Lakeland Photographic Holidays. Our workshops are the perfect start for beginners and John relishes the chance to inspire young photographers, encouraging their interest in landscape and wildlife photography. He has worked with a wide range of ages, from Year Six primary school kids, right through to youngsters completing residential workshops for their Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award and one of his first young students was his own daughter Emma, who became the youngest Licentiate of the Royal Photographic Society at aged 10.
We created this workshop especially for youngsters and it's an idyllic introduction to photography...
The four-night format runs along similar lines to our Landscape Workshops, arriving on the Sunday afternoon for a 4.00pm start. After refreshments and a chance to meet fellow participants, John takes the group through an introduction and camera surgery.
Dinner follows at 7.00pm after which John goes through a selection of images taken around the Lakes. On Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday after a full Cumbrian breakfast at 8.30am, John takes participants out in the Land Rover to a selected location, where the day is spent in the field learning about all aspects of Landscape Photography.
After returning to base at around 5.30pm, the group is asked to download their images on to their own laptops (although computers are available in our digital room) and then select 10 images for the evening review. Dinner follows at 7.00pm and then images from each participant are reviewed by John in the lecture room, going through post production if required. Guests leave after a hearty breakfast on Thursday morning.
Transport to and from Penrith Station (a 40 mile round trip) is included in the price of the workshop and on departure, guests will be taken back to Penrith Station – we advise that return trains should be booked from 11am onwards.
Both John and Gail hold current Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) certificates and are very conscious of safe guarding the young people in their care.
Our Young People's Landscape Photography Workshop is suitable for students of 11 years (Year 7) and older, although all students under the age of 16 need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Students from the age of 16 are welcome to stay without supervision.
